Large Painting '' Sheep In The Pasture '' Signed A. Charpin, 1906 - Early 20th Century

Large oil on canvas signed Albert Charpin (1842-1924) representing a flock of sheep accompanied by a couple of shepherds and their dog, surrounded by a magnificent carved frame. A pupil of Charles-Francois Daubigny, Albert Charpin is known for his works illustrating landscapes and rural scenes. His painting is characterized by his natural poses and the serenity of his models, against a backdrop of morning daylight, with cloudy skies. In the foreground of this painting, warmly colored sheep graze the pasture grass calmly. At their side, a shepherd holding his crook and wearing a round hat, advances accompanied by his wife dressed in a cape. Behind them, the shepherd's dog watches over the livestock. The sky presents soft and delicate tones matching the shapes of the hills on the horizon. This unique work bears the artist's signature at the bottom right. Surrounding the canvas, a magnificent frame carved in patinated wood fits perfectly with this pastoral scene. Rich in ornamentation, it presents stylized moldings and sculptures forming arabesques. Albert Charpin signs here a harmonious and airy work, where nature is presented in a unique way, imbued with poetry and sensitivity.
