"Large Baluster Vase, In Cracked Canton Porcelain, China - Nineteenth"
Important baluster vase, originally from Canton, a major port in southern China, famous for its porcelain. As often on these works of art, the painter took advantage of the circular shape of the vase to represent continuous scenes. Here, it is the theme of confrontation that has been retained. Characters in traditional dress, some on horseback and armed with swords, battle, brandishing shields and standards. These enamel decorations are predominantly green, pink and orange, on an ivory cracked porcelain background. The flared neck is embellished with Fo dogs depicting handles. The shoulder and the bottom of this vase are marked by wide brown bands, with dragons and salient motifs, while a thinner outlines the lips. Note the presence of a sinogram signature on the underside of the object. This pretty vase will bring Asia into your interior, with colorful and lively decorations.
