"Menadee - Bacchante, Bronze, France, 2nd Half Of The 19th Century."
The sculpture represents Menadee from Greek mythology (or Bacchante from Roman mythology). The girl's twisted body gives dynamism to the sculpture. Her hair is wrapped in a wreath of flowers and she holds grapes in her hands, a characteristic attribute of the retinue of Dionysus. The trunk of the tree against which the figure is leaning is intertwined with lianas, and an amphora is visible at the girl's feet. Cast bronze, hand chiselled, polished and patinated. France, 2nd half of the 19th century. Height 37 cm, width 13 cm, length 15 cm. Preservation visible in the photos, relatively good condition, although the left arm is broken at the elbow - the sculpture probably fell and was damaged there. Free delivery in EU. !
