The sculpture depicts Kannon Bosatsu (Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara). Kannon is seated on a rock, dressed in long robes, with a distinctive high cap on his head, a necklace and a scroll, probably a Buddhist sutra in his hands. The Japanese artist gracefully depicted Kannon's subtle facial expression, elegant pose, and cascading dresses. Patinated bronze. Japan, Edo/Meiji period, 19th century.
