Object description :

"Small Napoleon III Weekly Secretary - Mid-19th Century"
Magnificent Napoleon III period piece of furniture topped with white Carrara marble finely veined with gray marrying the curve of the front and sides. This secretary is composed in the upper part of a flap simulating three drawers and in the lower part of four drawers. The drawers are slightly curved on the front and underlined by sculpted bronze rods applied around its perimeter. On the front, they are made of rosewood in the center, in four sheets, with a net of light wood and tinted wood around the edges. The surround is rosewood. Each drawer has two bronze pull handles, bronze entries, original locks with their key, in working order. The opening of the flap reveals a tabernacle composed of a niche, a large drawer simulating two, and two small drawers in the lower part. Inside, we find black leather with golden vignette, enriched with a harmonious central ornament. The front and sides of this secretary have many bronze fittings. Rounded rosewood veneer legs accent high and low falls. The sides are slightly curved towards the back and we find in the center an important four leaves in rosewood with a rosewood surround. The upper part of the cabinet ends in a diminutive groove with rosewood veneer, bronze rod around its perimeter, bronze flower motifs at the corners and in the middle a bronze palmette. In its projecting top is an important gadrooned bronze molding. At each corner, we find a bronze drop and in the middle an intertwined pattern. Graceful and elegant, this Napoleon III secretary from the 19th century will delight you with the finesse of its ornamentation.
