The attractive sitter is pictured half length, his body slightly inclined within an oval cartouche. Perched upon an orange velvet chair, he really is the picture of elegance and refinement.
The stylish subject wears a tailored black wool coat with velvet collar, over a silver waistcoat and high coloured white shirt, which is held in place with a striped silk stock tied at the neck.
The vigorous and fluid handling of this portrait shows all the confident hallmarks of this supremely talented artist. The modelling of the hair and face is particularly well executed making this sensitive and tender work a fine representation of male beauty.
