Double saleron in solid silver and crystal around 1820 Old man and goldsmith Durand hallmarks. François DURAND, silversmith to the Duke of ORLÉANS, was a pupil of ODIOT and foreman of FAUCONNIER. Many were his participations in the Exhibitions of Industrial Products of the beginning of the 19th century but also in the Universal Exhibitions of London (Crystal Palace, 1851) and Paris (1855). He made the 1841 Prize Cup for the Goodwood Races (Louvre Museum, Paris). It was offered by Ferdinand-Philippe, Duke of ORLÉANS and eldest son of King LOUIS-PHILIPPE, a great horse lover and enlightened patron, to the winner of the Goodwood horse races (United Kingdom) in 1841. This neo-style cup -Renaissance, will be commissioned by the prince from the sculptor Jean-Baptiste Jules KLAGMANN and produced by DURAND. It is currently kept at the Louvre Museum.
