Coastal landscape and ships being repaired
Oil on canvas, 113 x 143 cm - frame 125 x 159
This fantastic coastal view can be attributed to a foreign painter active in Italy between the 17th and 18th centuries. The Italianate taste, in our case deduced from the models of Agostino Tassi and especially from the examples of Gaspare Vanvitelli, finds a precise confirmation: it is enough to evoke the different views designed by the latter, to grasp the analogies of taste and image. cut off. The rapid, cursory brushwork is only superficially sketchy but betrays on closer observation an admirable attention to detail as evidenced by the analysis of the design and description of ships at anchor.
