This large and beautiful painting presents a wide glacial valley, with hamlets and inhabited dwellings on the left and on the right. In the center foreground, the scene is animated by shepherds fording a river with an ox cart. At the bottom, in the center of the valley, we can make out the halo of a glacier lake. In the background, a chain of snow-capped mountains that stands out against a beautiful blue sky.
Actually, the existence of this lake is more suggested than clearly visible, but a happy coincidence meant that we sold a few months ago another large mountain painting by another painter which presented the same valley but taken more forward. We recognize the characteristic profile of the mountain ranges in the background, which are therefore a real landscape and not an invention born in the mind of the artist. On our van der Burch's painting, we can clearly see the lake at the bottom and we can assume that painting was taken from the hamlet on the left that we see on our present painting. https://www.gslr-antiques.com/fr/boutique/tableaux/grand-tableau-montagne-vander-bruk.php JN Schitz's painting is more beautiful, finer in its realization than the other painting that we sold and referenced. There are many details of small figures, heads of cattle barely sketched but very scrupulous in their realistic representation. The painting is presented in a beautiful gilded frame with gold leaf. Signature of Schitz in the lower left corner. In addition to its fresh and cheerful colors, our painting is characterized by its large size and its strong decorative effect.
It is in excellent condition: painting that we had cleaned as well as the frame gilded with gold leaf. No accidents.
