"Earthenware Bust Of A Bigoudène, By H. Porson - 1920/1930"
Polychrome earthenware bust of Nantes sculptor Henriette Porson (1874 – 1963), made by the emblematic HB factory, and representing a Bigoudène grandmother. The Subject wears the traditional dress and headdress of the Pont-L'Abbé region, identifiable by their Shimmering Color Embroidery. These decorations in relief, inspired by the characteristic lace of the Bigouden country, are moreover an innovation of the Faïencerie Quimperoise: it launched the "Decor Embroidery" at the end of the First World War. The marks of Time can be read on the Model's face, giving her an austere expression. The Artist was able to transcribe the Severity and Rigor which were the lot of women at this time, imposed by Decency and Religion. Vestige of a bygone era, this Work is a touching testimony that will speak to Lovers of Breton Culture.
