Showcase Cabinet In Blackened Pear Tree, Napoleon III Period - 1850

Rare ceremonial piece of furniture with numerous ivory marquetry, on a blackened pear background, typical of the Napoleon III period. Its lower part opens with a glass door, with molded frame and rounded corners. It reveals an exhibition space furnished with a 34.5 cm shelf, placed on fixed cleats. This leaf is equipped with a lock in working order and its key. The sides of this lower element are also glazed, and they have the same surrounds as those described above. The front angles of this piece of furniture are recessed, giving way to two turned columns, embellished with high and low ivory rings. In addition to their aesthetic aspect, these uprights also serve as supports for the belt of this Showcase, and for its top with protruding edges. This lower part is embellished with ivory inlays, arranged in nets and foliage. We find, in greater number, similar Decorations and other Arabesques on the Backsplash with the cut contours of this piece of furniture. This upper element is provided with small ornamental Cornices, and two shelves placed on solid brackets. We will especially remember the finesse of the characters as well as the Pelican present on this Backsplash. These Marqueteries, which seem inspired by the Italian Art of the 1850s, are the result of meticulous and quality work. The whole rests on a molded plinth, itself set on four soberly carved legs. We will appreciate the delicacy of this ceremonial piece of furniture, rare in its composition, which can be harmonized in particular in a "Black and White" decoration. The Contrast effect of this binomial is successful: the Clear Marqueteries are highlighted by a deep black background.
