Beautiful shahsavan in copper shades, consisting in the central part of two rectangles with zoomorphic rams, all surrounded by three borders. On either side of the soumak (central part), the kilims with polychrome bands were originally the underside of the satchel. Beautiful patina.
The territory of the shahsavans lies south and west of the Caspian Sea, in Iranian Azerbaijan. Made up of Kurdish, Persian, Turkish, Tajik and Caucasian ethnicities, the Shahsavan confederation was formed during the reign of Safavid ruler Shah Abbas (reigned 1587-1629). Shahsavan means "those who love the Shah".
