If the blade is of normal size, the hilt is gigantic since it alone measures 102.5 cm
BLADE:
This is the traditional Dao blade, found throughout southern China, and also in Vietnam.
It is extremely sharp, except in the first 15 centimeters near the hilt. It widens towards the tip, which has a circular hole in which is set a brass cross. This hole was used to attach a type of textile ribbon during training to better visualize the movement.
A plant decoration is engraved on each side of the blade. Blade length 49.2 cm Thickness 2mm
GUARD: in oxidized iron, octagonal.
HILT : It is made of wood, covered with a complicated braiding of weathered cord, in perfect condition. The handle ends with a ring which was used to attach a scarf that was wrapped around the left hand to ensure the grip.
This handle is massive, due to the special braiding that increases its volume and ensures grip. It is of oval section approximately 3.5 cm by 3 cm
Such very long hilt is unusual on this type of weapon.
It is rare to find the braiding of the handles like here, preserved in good condition.
This model recalls by its proportions the Ta Pei Dao of North China, but obviously the blade is of different shape.
Uncommon saber model.
