"Marcel Poggioli (1882-1969) The Old Well"
Elegant and refined, and an almost pointillist touch full of sensitivity for this oil on canvas by the Marseille artist of Corsican origin Marcel Dominique Poggioli. The work in very good condition represents an Old Well next to a tree, it is offered in its pretty carved wooden frame from the 1930s which measures 86 cm by 73 cm and 73 cm by 60 cm without the frame. It is signed lower left. Landscape painter with great sensitivity to the pastel palette, member of the Salon des Artistes Français since 1921. Professor of drawing and Decorative Arts at the School of Fine Arts in Marseille. Poggioli never denied either his Corsican origins (he painted his island with passion) or his participation in the Proletarian Artists movement (Art et Travail, Maison de la Culture de Marseille in 1936). Indeed, Vice-President of the Union of Artists of Provence, he never ceased to take an active part in the professional life of visual artists and in the organization of various Salons. As for his paintings, poetry and delicacy are the mark of a refined artist. The Cantini Museum in Marseille preserves "the Maquis and the sea"
