"Papier Mâché élephant, Advertising Animal Box, Tea Or Chocolate, Ca 1900"
Rare chocolate (or tea) box in boiled cardboard or papier-mâché dating from the end of the 19th or beginning of the 20th century. The whole measures 32cm long by 22cm high, the head of the elephant is removable and includes a surprise box... Good condition, quite remarkable given the age and material of this box (one wood tusk is missing). The shape of the elephant strongly resembles the Côte d'Or "A l'éléphant" logo from 1883, a Belgian chocolate factory which was located on rue des chapeliers in Brussels, a logo discovered by Charles Neuhaus. Also possible a tea box for the "Golden Elephant" advertisement....
