The Adoration of the Shepherds oil on copper, dimensions 35 cm x 27 cm, with the frame 55 cm x 47 cm, attibuted to Frans Franken II, early 17th century. On our painting in the foreground in front of the child Jesus, lies the Divine Lamb with bound feet, announcing the sacrifice to come. Mary tenderly lifts the veil to show shepherds of all ages the Savior whom they have come to adore. The white area of the cradle is the symbol of innocence. At the back, a small Flemish town under the snow from the beginning of the 17th century and characters running to join the shepherds. Frans Franken II (1581 - 1642) is a Flemish painter from the Spanish Netherlands, he is the most famous of the Frans Franken I sons, of whom he was a pupil and the owner of one of the most prosperous workshops in the city of Antwerp.
