The Palace of Fontainebleau kept seven pairs of similar candlesticks, Claude Galle sold two in 1805, Ravrio sold, also in 1805, a pair then four pairs in 1806. This example perfectly illustrates the nonsense of making attributions for objects ( decorative arts) until the end of the Empire, since the principle of "copyright" or "intellectual property" simply did not exist. As in this case, it is common to see identical objects, delivered by various intermediaries. One of the pairs similar to the present candlesticks was in the living room of the apartment of the King of Naples and described as follows: pair of chiseled and gilded copper candlesticks, fluted stems, ornaments with reversed leaves.
Condition report: very good condition of the gilding, original threaded rod, the sockets are missing.
