"Adoring Angels - Northern Italy XVIth Century"
Our sculptor, a 16th century artist from northern Italy, produced two remarkable works. It is with great realism and great finesse that he offers us these angels that can be described as exceptional. The first has his hands joined in prayer and the second has placed them on his heart, they are both kneeling on clouds. Dressed in albs that form intricate drapes, their long brown/red hair is held back by simple tiaras, one of which is adorned with a six-pointed star surmounted by a cross. The finely chiseled hair highlights their soft faces and forms elegant curls that undulate over the shoulders.
Coming from an old private collection, these angels probably sat on a high altar framing a scene of the Passion as is customary.
