Object description :

"Cupid Crowning Venus, Brooch From The Beginning Of The XIX In Banded Agate Glass"
Here is a very beautiful jewel with undeniable charm. a gilt metal brooch adorned with a cameo representing Venus crowned by love.
this brooch dates from the first half of the 19th century and despite its dimensions the details of the cameo are extremely fine.
Take a good look at the photos, we discover a charming scene where Venus, dressed in an antique dress, receives a laurel wreath from the hands of Cupid.
the details are remarkable: the draping of the goddess's dress is very elaborate. she sits on a baseline.
her hair is long and flutters in the wind as well as her stole behind her.
cupid, the god of love in the guise of a winged child is standing on the knees of the goddess.
he left his bow and his quiver hanging on a stele behind him, and is about to crown Venus with a laurel wreath.
these details are superb, you can even see the face of Venus and Cupid as well as the feathers on her wings.
the whole is delightful and inspired by classical antiquity.
this whole scene was executed with an extra thickness of material all around reminiscent of a niccolo (nicolo), but what is very original is to have used a glass paste like banded agate.
indeed this type of work is less common and therefore rarer to encounter, the effect rendered is superb and quite unusual.
Most of the time engravers and glypticians use gems and in particular agate in its thickness in order to release the desired patterns in the thickness of the color strata.
here the artist has played with the glass paste by creating a sharp color contrast from brown to white as in banded agate.
the effect rendered is striking.
the cameo is in very good condition and its face is intact, a chip of about four millimeters is on the back at the bottom of the brooch and must be consecutive to the brooch mounting.
Nicely worked gilt metal frame with a slight elevation on the front at the clasp.
a very beautiful collector's item of jewelery with undeniable charm, a banded agate-style cameo whose composition and details will delight you. dimensions: 3 cm long by 2.5 cm high with the frame. we deliver and ship anywhere in the world, please contact us for a precise quote.
