Object description :

"Clock "the Chariot Of Telemachus", Empire Period, Early 19th Century"
Sublime "chariot" pendulum in gilded and matt gilded bronze representing a couple of horses pulling a lion-headed chariot led by Telemachus driving Athena.
Base with four beams decorated with a mythological scene, "skeleton" dial entirely in gilded bronze (unlike certain enamelled models).
Empire period. We have found the preparatory drawing signed by André Reiche, deposited in 1807 at the Imperial Library, at the National Library (Cabinet des Estampes, 30, f. 43). Several examples of this clock are known. According to tradition, the Emperor gave this clock to his twelve marshals.
The Malmaison Museum keeps one copy (Mm 40-47-8304), another, signed Galle, is in the Spanish royal collections, the François Duesberg Museum in Mons keeps two. Condition report: restored and overhauled in December 2021. Sold with a 2-year warranty. Very good condition, wear and tear to the gilding.
