HOUBEN Charles (1871-1931) Oil on panel Dimensions of the work: 35 x 50 cm Dimensions with frame: 51 x 67 cm Painter, realist of landscapes. Also a sculptor. Student at the Academy of Liège. Is advised by J. Lambeaux and A. Bastien in Brussels. Trip to Algeria, Tunisia and the South of France. Works in Belgium, especially around Brussels, in the Ardennes and on the coast. Fled to England in 1914. But enlisted as a volunteer in 1916. Was then part of the Artistic Section. Works mainly in the Lo region. Is seriously ill at the front (1917). Is demolished in 1918. Participates in the exhibition "Belgian Art in Exile" in London as well as in the "Exhibition of Painters of the Belgian Front" (Switzerland 1917). Works in the Museums of Brussels, Liège, Namur and Verviers (ARTO)
