Grandson of the painter Camille Pissarro, he is the father of the French painter Frédéric Bonin-Pissarro (born in 1964) working in the United States. Resistant, he ensured the protection of collections of French museums during the Second World War, and organized in the 1950s a major art exhibition in Australia, the notable success of which made many painters of the School of Paris known there. "When I see a tree, a bush, my eye does not see the outside of the thing but sees in short the bark of the tree, it sees the soul of the plant, the soul of nature. My painting has this claim to represent the soul of things and not the appearance" Claude Bonin-Pissarro Claude Bonin-Pissarro (born in 1921) receives us in his studio, in Galargues, in the Hérault. He is the grandson of the Dean of Impressionism, Camille Pissarro (1830-1903). His mother was Jeanne called Cocotte (1881-1948). Claude Bonin-Pissarro's studio is made up of two rooms. In the first studio where the interview will take place: there are the painter's writings, numerous books, his sketchbooks and drawings. This is where he paints and he is going to tell us about his impressions of painting. His writings reflect deep thoughts, sketches taken from nature serve as the basis for his paintings; these “notes” are supports for an artistic memory. Nature is the main source of inspiration for Claude Bonin-Pissarro, he feels painting and his brush transposes the soul of things. In his paintings, he favors color over line and volume, it can be colored flat tints. Emotion guides him in choosing his subjects. During the interview, the words of the painter offer the variants of his palette and his artistic sensibility: “The eye sees, the painting feels and the brush transposes. (…) A canvas is the projection of the soul, of what one feels at the time. At 95, Claude Bonin-Pissarro is sparkling with intelligence! Fatma Alilate
