"Fortuné Viguier (1841-1916) The Lumberjacks"
Great classic of the 19th century, the forest workers, the woodcutters created by the Marseilles artist Fortuné Viguier. The work in its good original condition is offered unframed, it measures 75.5 cm by 52.5 cm. It is signed lower right and represents lumberjacks working. Pupil of Lagier, Loubon, Jeanron in Marseilles and Bonnat in Paris. He paints landscapes of the suburbs of Marseilles and interior Provence in the light of Corot. He exhibited at the Salon of French artists from 1869 to 1881, and regularly at the Salon de Marseille. He also exhibited at the Association of Fine Arts in Cannes in 1906 and 1907, at the Society of Friends of the Arts in Bordeaux from 1872 to 1876. He obtained several awards: a silver medal in Toulon in 1873, in Avignon in 1876 and 1877, and in Marseilles in 1879 and 1886. Most of his work consists of landscapes and views of the Provençal coast. Works in public collections Cannes, Musée de la Castre: Provençal landscape.
