"Art Nouveau Woman Bust “fraises Au Champagne” By Alfred Jean Foretay"
Polychromed cast aluminium “Art Nouveau” bust of a young woman dressed in a ruffled bustier. Entitled “Strawberries with Champagne”, it is signed on the left side with the sculptor’s full name, Alfred Jean Foretay, and the initials AF.
The technique of smelting aluminium was created around 1850, and for its time was revolutionary, costing more than casting in bronze.
