"Bronze "
Bronze sculpture with brown patina depicting Bacchante accompanied by two fauns. Inspired by the work "La Bacchante au petit faune" by Jean-Joseph Foucou (1739-1815) in 1777, this Bronze was attributed to Clodion (1738-1814) during its creation, hence the inscription on the base "Bacchante by Clodion - Original Louvre Museum". It is a Barbedienne cast also bearing the round stamp “mechanical reproduction A. Colas”. Bacchante, priestess of Bacchus God of drunkenness, is represented with two small fauns. These two half-human, half-goat mythological creatures surround the young woman. One on his right shoulder, hidden face holding a bunch of grapes is dressed in a garland of vine leaves. The other, near his left leg, carries a gourd and a staff. Bacchante is depicted naked and sensual, a light veil surrounding her hips. She looks amusedly at the little Faun sitting on her shoulder, which she is holding with her hands. Charming and Sensual, this sculpture is an ode to youth and celebration.
