Surprising little boxwood object, openwork carved, French or Flemish work from the early 17th century, in the spirit of carved knife handles, wood or ivory, of the time. (see document in last photo, "Treen", H. Pinto).It is the pommel or the handle of an object, entirely openwork, carved with a rich decoration inspired by the reading of the Bible, it presents, turning: a long snake with good smile, a lion reclining on a boot, a great erect eagle, an owl, a sheep, a father carrying a sword, and his son,

an archangel who intervenes in time, all this under a pleated and leafy canopy where a pansy flower grows. Dimensions 8cm x 5cm x 3.5cm.
Small posterior black wooden base.
Condition: Excellent, nice patina. Little wear. Unique object, forming a sort of cage.
