Italy, 15th century
Carrara marble
Height: 12cm
Width: 64cm
Marble frieze decorated with an angel's head in its wings, surmounted by a ring. On either side of bouquets, foliage, pomegranates and other buds. At the other end another ring holds a bouquet probably of hazelnuts in their foliage.
Typical of Italian architectural friezes of this period, it is likely that our work is close to the entourage of Francesco di Simone Ferrucci (1437-1493) or Domenico Rosselli (1439-1498), both Florentine sculptors.
