Object description :

"Small Davenport Desk In Walnut, England, Victorian Period - Nineteenth"
Small Middle Secretary, English, called Davenport, in solid Walnut and Burr Walnut Veneer. It is made up of a projecting desk with an inclined flap around the edge molded in "Bec de Corbin". The latter is covered with authentic Green leather lined with Golden Vignettes and on a hard bottom. He discovers a lemon tree locker, itself furnished with two small drawers. The upper part of this writing desk offers a storage compartment 11 cm deep, removable, opening from above and locking. It is embellished with a wooden gallery and its sides are curved. True to its original definition, the lower part of this Davenport consists of four drawers accessible from the right side. Each of them has two round pull buttons, a period lock in working order, and its current key. To create symmetry and a pleasant visual, the left side offers an identical front, but the drawers are fictitious. At the front, two elongated legs, generously sculpted, both support the desk and lighten the silhouette of the piece of furniture. The set rests on four wheels for perfect mobility of this already light Small Office and great adaptability. It should be noted that the back has been designed so as to be visible, which makes this secretary in reduced format a potential piece of furniture in the middle. We will also appreciate the pretty designs formed by the Decorative and Quality Burr Walnut Veneer from which this Small Desk benefits. Historical precision, the term Davenport comes from the captain of the Royal Navy of the same name, who, at the end of the 18th century, ordered a special writing case, of sufficiently small dimensions to fit into the limited volume of his cabin. Interesting proportions just as suitable for this 21st century, where living space is often reduced and in which this Small Office will make it possible to establish a work space that is both functional and space-saving.
