"Small Cabinet In Marquetry Of Various Woods, Louis XVI Style - 1900"
Small cabinet with rounded, recessed top. It consists of two curtain doors, sliding laterally, fitted with bronze pull buttons. Nets with Greek corners frame a succession of herringbone marquetry, allowing the mobility of these doors. The uprights are adorned in the upper part with bronze scraps decorated with instruments and foliage. The mahogany interior offers two drawers of identical dimensions overhanging a niche. As a belt, this cabinet has a retractable shelf, lined with brown leather, and opens with a third drawer. The latter is equipped with an elaborate entrance and a lock in working order, accompanied by its key, all original. The set rests on four sheathed feet ending in square brass shoes. This piece of furniture is embellished, on the top, the sides or even the front of the drawer, with marquetry in kingwood, sometimes in friezes, sometimes in butterfly wings. They are underlined by nets of lemon tree and green tinted wood, which can also be found on the shelf and on all the visible sides of the legs. We will appreciate the finesse of the lines and marquetry of this 1900 cabinet, as well as its functionality. Indeed, it skillfully combines workspace and storage furniture, while being decorative.
