"Large Portico Pendulum With Sphinxes, Empire Period Around 1805 In White Marble And Gilded Bronze"
Large portico clock in white marble and chased and gilded bronze decorated with winged sphinxes. The pilaster uprights decorated with Egyptian terms. The white enamel dial has Roman numerals, surmounted by a chiseled gilt bronze eagle. The whole resting on a black marble terrace finished with spinning top feet decorated with stylized palmettes. The 2 porticoes are caryatids to the Egyptians. Very beautiful drape under the movement. 2 winged sphinxes in bronze with brown patina on the top terrace and finally an eagle slaying a snake on a rock. The gilding and carving are of very good quality with matte and shiny gilding. Wire movement. Empire period, early 19th century, circa 1805. This clock has been serviced, cleaned, disassembled, it is in perfect working order. Dimensions: 63 x 43 x 11 cm A similar model is reproduced in the Tardy volume II page 183 (see photo)
