Reissue of an 18th century fireback with the arms of Jerôme Phélypeaux de Pontchartrain (1674 -1747), French count and politician, first married in 1697 to Eléonore Christine de la Rochefoucault de Roye (1681-1708) and in 1713 in second marriage he married Marie Hélène Rosalie Angélique de l'Aubespine (1690-1770). Functions were attributed to him, from an early age, in 1699 he was appointed secretary of state of the King's household and secretary of state of the Navy until 1715. He notably encouraged the exploration and colonization of Louisiana and also took care of the creation of the Royal Academy of Inscriptions and Medals (July 1701), which in 1716 became the Academy of Inscriptions and Belles Lettres. The Phélypeaux lived from 1609 to 1801 at the Château de Pontchartrain in the Yvelines near Versailles, where a collection of plaques bearing the family coat of arms were hung on the walls of the passage through the central pavilion. Our plate with a turbulent outline is lined with falling flowers on inverted scrolls. His coat of arms in a cartouche is surmounted by a count's crown. In supports two eagles confronted. Its weight is 114 kg. Coat of arms: 1 and 4, azure strewn with four gold leaves a quarter of ermine, 2 and 3, gold (or silver) with three lizards vert.
