"Canoe Prow, Asmat, Papua New Guinea"
End of the prow of a canoe representing an ancestor figure holding in his long arms the powerful beak of the hornbill. These figureheads protect the boat and are called "tsji tsjemen".
Wood, black and ocher pigments. Cracks and minor missing parts (right toe, back, ears).
