"Virgin And Child And Saints Peter And Paul, Oil On Canvas Neapolitan Beginning Of The XVIIIs."
Splendid oil on canvas representing the Virgin and Child on the throne and Saints Peter and Paul represented in contemplation in the presence of the Virgin placed in an elevated position in relation to the saints. We can affirm, through a stylistic and compositional analysis, but above all for the strongly lively and luminous chromatic range used, that this painting was probably executed by a talented Neapolitan painter linked to the profitable pictorial environment of Paolo De Matteis (Piano Vetrale, February 9, 1662 [1] - Naples, July 26, 1728), who in his mature phase opened a school in Naples which was to be a veritable forge of talent. Besides his daughter Mariangiola De Matteis, Giuseppe Mastroleo, Inácio de Oliveira, members of the Sarnelli family, Michelangelo Buonocore, Antonio Fumo, Francesco Giordano and Domenico Guarino and others are among his pupils.
The painting has recently been cleaned and relined, so it is in excellent condition.
