nice copy . in good condition . it is carved in a hard wood with a beautiful patina of use . the chicken supports a cup decorated with a triangular pattern, the base is disc-shaped .. the divination bowls are used to keep the 16 sacred palm nuts which are handled during the ritual and are used for the interrogation of the oracle .. during the prophecy the “babalawo” (priest) spreads the “opon ifa” with flour throws the palm nuts on the board and generates the oracle from the lines drawn on the board . the "ifa" oracle is used throughout the Yoruba country and similar prediction systems are known throughout West Africa ..
