LEU" FOR AUGUST WILHELM LEU (1818-1897) DATED 1867 REPRESENTING AN ALPINE LANDSCAPE - GERMAN SCHOOL OF THE XIXTH CENTURY - ENTIRELY IN ITS JUICE - A LIGHT CLEANING WOULD BE ENVISAGED - VERY NICE FRAME GOLD LEAF - FRAME SIZE 69 X 90 CM August Wilhelm Leu (March 24, 1818 - July 20, 1897) was a German landscape painter of the Romantic school. Most of his images are large format and represent scenes in Norway and the Alps Leu studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf from 1840 to 1845, notably with Johann Wilhelm Schirmer and traveled from 1843 to 1847 in Norway, later in Switzerland, Tyrol, Upper Bavaria, Styria and Italy. He lived for a time in Brussels and then returned to Düsseldorf. In 1882 he moved to Berlin.
