Medallion carved in low relief like the cameos of an antique scene in ebonite, a hard material resulting from the vulcanization of rubber with a high proportion of sulfur invented in 1838. The solid silver frame is of rare quality of execution. Decor of mermaids interspersed with staples, foliage and acanthus leaves. A mascaron in pediment. Bears hallmarks of solid English silver.
