Object description :

"Chest Of Drawers In Mahogany And Marquetry, In The Style Of Louis XVI - 1940/1950"
Remarkable Mahogany Chest of Drawers decorated with Marquetry, made by the master cabinetmaker Marcel Gris, originally from Nantes and Pornic, in the 1940s. His signature is affixed inside one of the doors, and specifies his year of birth, at know 1886. This piece of furniture is composed on the front of two doors closing "nut" in Sycamore veneer, decorated with inlay of Thuja representing a scene of hunting with hounds finely executed: the riders, the beaters, the game and the birds made of dark wood offer a striking rendering, the craftsman was able to transcribe this scene with realism and poetry. These doors are fitted with a star-shaped bronze ornamentation, as well as a brass drop handle in the shape of a fleur-de-lis: they open onto a light wood interior, composed of 2 sycamore drawers . These complete the substantial storage offer of this chest of drawers, with its 6 drawers on the front, each fitted with their pearl ring and macaroon pull handle: composed in the central part of Bird's eye maple, they are embellished around their edges. a contrasting thread of light and dark essences, namely Rosewood, Amaranth and Lemon Tree. Note that these precious wood fillet inlays are also found in many places, such as on the top and sides of the cabinet, as well as on the edge of the shelf located under the top. Offering an additional space that can be dedicated to writing, the latter, framed by 2 false zippers in the same spirit, has a mahogany entourage with miter cut, and is lined with red leather with golden vignette. Its opening is facilitated by a round beaded button, and stops thanks to a stopper. The base consists of four turned feet furnished with a brass shoe, on which rest slightly rounded uprights. Subtly combining the Louis XVI spirit with the modernity of Art Deco, this Chest of Drawers with multiple inspirations is the fruit of an admirable work of cabinetmaking, and will fit easily into your Decoration with its light colors.
