"Bronze Pedestal Table In The Neoclassical Style, Circa 1860"
The base consists of three satyrs in brown patinated bronze. These demi-gods of Antiquity are represented half-man, half-goat. Often associated with the god of wine Dionysus, dancing happily, one hand on his hip, the other stretched forward. These caryatid satyrs support the red marble top.
This pedestal table was part of the classic antique furniture, many models have been found in Pompeii as in Herculaneum. A tripod, which certainly inspired this pedestal table, discovered in Pompeii, is kept in the Archaeological Museum of Naples.
