Chéri CHERIN (1955) Oil on canvas Title: The titleholders Dimensions of the work: 104 x 117 cm Chéri Chérin, whose real name is Joseph Kinkonda, born February 16, 1955 in Léopoldville, is a painter from the Democratic Republic of Congo. One of the main representatives of contemporary Congolese popular painting – along with Chéri Samba and Moké – he willingly tackles themes such as resourcefulness, power or daily life in Kinshasa. His taste for political satire got him into trouble during the last years of the Mobutu regime.
