"Brass Heater. Flanders 1777. 18th Century."
The one-piece forged cylindrical body, which has a stepped neck with a rolled edge, rests on a ditto pedestal, attached and riveted to the bottom; all screwed on a wooden slab. The dangling handle on pinched ears is formed by a brass ribbon rolled along its length. This manufacturing technique, common in Flemish brassware, guarantees the same conditions of rigidity and solidity as molten or forged metal. The slightly interlocking lid, pierced with concentric ventilation holes, is positioned in front of the ears, by two indentations. A wooden ball serves as a grip. Under the step, a riveted loop holds the ember shovel stamped with No. 14. On the lid and under the step one can read, engraved in dotted line: N08 1777. This detail suggests a use in a boarding school or a hospice. The 1777 vintage being then rather a date of attribution than of manufacture. Origin: FLANDERS. Height at the lid: 19 cm. Diameter: 18.5cm. 18th century. Very good condition. Free shipping by COLISSIMO for metropolitan France.
