"Lepautre. Pair Of Engravings. Period XVIIth Century"
Pair of black engravings by Jean LEPAUTRE ( 1618-1682).
Draughtsman and engraver, he was appointed Ordinary engraver of King Law XIV and became a member of the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture.
His talent recognized by all, and especially by Colbert, he engraved many plates for the King's Cabinet, such as the Ensemble de la Grotte de Versailles, La fête donnée à Versailles, Les Divertissements donnés par Le Roy, as well as many engravings of the basins, statues and vases of the Versailles park.
Here is a beautiful example proposed here.
This pair of engravings is in perfect condition, and of a great finesse of execution.
