"Chinese Bridal Chamber"
China, 19th century. Sumptuous Chinese bridal chamber in polychrome, carved and gilded wood. Intended for a couple of high dignitaries, rare for its dazzling polychromy and the presence of 7 real paintings in the decor, this alcove offers a setting conducive to daydreaming. Rare again by its unusual format, less deep than usual. It comes to us in a good state of preservation. The facade is underlined with openwork motifs and richly decorated with scenes with numerous characters in relief, painted and gilded. Inside nine painted panels, four on themes of plants and birds, treated with great delicacy. Three central panels dedicated to the life of women are surrounded by two calligraphic panels. A sign on the facade wishes prosperity through work and abundant offspring and noble descendants to the spouses. At the back, in woodwork, a long low cabinet with four drawers and three doors. On the ceiling a large openwork frame decorated with interlacing, to support a curtain. Finally, a very rich red and gold cornice framed by Fô lions crowns this impressive bridal chamber. Our research did not find a similar model, it is a unique piece of its kind. Sleeping dimensions 196x121 cm. Many detail photos available on request.
