Derbent rug from the large Shirvan family originating from the Caucasus, in hand-knotted wool, decorated with four multi-lobed medallions, circa 1980. This rug presents four very ornate purple, midnight blue, pale blue and salmon medallions in the center of a field of almost khaki color, . The bright colors, dominated by shimmering purple, bring out all the patterns wonderfully. It is not uncommon to find in the manufactures of these countries very bright colors, purple, yellow, red, orange, blue which awaken the decorations of these knotted or woven carpets. The Derbent originate from the top of Daghestan, near the Caspian Sea and remain emblematic carpets of the Russian Caucasus. From the 1960s, we only made wool on wool but also wool on cotton. The border followed by two frets is decorated with stylized crabs. The finish of this rug is kilim style followed by fringes. The liveliness of the colors affixed to a high quality short shiny wool, makes it a remarkable rug and in perfect condition. This rug has been professionally cleaned in an environmentally friendly manner.
