It is a species of arborescent acropore, forming tangles of large pointed stems more or less resembling deer antlers. Its color can range from pale cream (almost white) to dark yellow (almost brown), with a white tip. A colony can measure up to 2.5 m in diameter. Staghorn coral, in particular, has declined by 80% around the world and 97% in some places - in Jamaica or Belize - over the past 30 years.
