Our painting is remarkably executed identically in every detail by a follower of Carle Van Loo.
Its dimension although large (117 x 90) is proportionally half of the original today in the Louvre Museum. The "Hunting stop" scene noticed and commented on at the Court was considered as being able to represent Louis XV and Louise de Mailly-Nesles favorite of the King since 1733, eldest of the 3 sisters of Nesles who were seduced by Louis XV but no one could affirm, Carle Van Loo assured to have designed this table without connection with the monarch. This exceptional scene offers to the eyes the immensity of the treated details which could only be enumerated by an important list; let us observe the richness, the elegance, the colors, the sophistication of the characters, the radiant human atmosphere, the luxury of clothing, the rich tableware installed on a tablecloth on the floor, the dishes, the animation, the clearing at the agreeable and the distant part in capricio, without omitting the animal presences. Painting on its frame and on its canvas, this one is in excellent condition, cleaned of the old varnish soiled by time. Note: the canvas (fabric) before the painter's work was originally enlarged at the top and bottom along the length, an unimportant detail.
The “Hunting stop” is placed in an inverted profile frame retained so as not to struggle with the composition. New frame in gilded wood.
