"19th Century Boulle Wall Clock"
This wall clock is formed of two parts: the clock case itself and the wall bracket that supports the case. The arched clock case is shaped like a violin body. The case rests on four S-shaped legs wrapped in ground gold (gilt bronze), which are joined at the front and back of the case by a scrollwork frieze of ground gold. The body of the crate is made of blackened wood on the lower and upper closed parts of the sides. The front of the case includes a large window in the shape of a violin body, the top of which houses the clock drum and the bottom of which allows an unobstructed view of the decorated panel. The front of the case, along the outer rim and window edge, is surrounded by gilt bronze mounts, the most striking of which is the classic mask at the top and the two smaller masks mounted on either side.
