"« La Fête Foraine « Lionel Ouine (1937- 1994) Huile Sur Toile."
Large, very decorative painting representing "The funfair of Saint Gilles" in Elbeuf in 1982 (Annotations on the back of the canvas.) Signed lower right Ouine.Lionel Ouine (1937-1994) is a French figurative painter. Impulsive impressionist, endowed with a powerful touch, the generous Ouine perpetuates the impressionist spirit of the School of Rouen. The signature of this artist in love with his Normandy is present in many regional and international galleries. In his studio in Elbeuf-sur-Seine, then in Rouen, the elbeuvien Ouine formed some of the current Norman signatures: the watercolourist Daniel Gilbert from 1980 Jean Quéméré from 1985, Evelyne Levionnais in 1985-1987, Gérard Quesney in 1985-1988, Jean-Claude Lenormand also. Ouine practices painting on the motif and trains his students there, in particular Quéméré from 1985 to 1990. He exhibits permanently at the Gérard Boudin gallery in the antique dealers' district of Rouen. After his death in 1994, his studio was dispersed to the Hotel des Ventes des Carmes in Rouen in 2002. In 2010, as part of the "Normandy Impressionist" event, a Lionel Ouine retrospective was organized by the Rouen gallery owner Gérard Boudin ( 1946-2013) at the Grenier à Sel in La Bouille, also bringing together works by his former students.
