Large wrought iron journeyman ruler, 19th century
Probably originally from Russia, this large ruler is cut by big openwork tri-lobed crosses patterns. The upper part is worked in bevelled edge, and one of the end is an Ogee edge profile.
In the center, " 1898г. " (for год, year) is inscribed as a succession of pierced dots. In between the date, letters " л. i. г." are set by brass brazing. This same glyph comes back several times on the ruler: at two ends on the obverse, at two ends and in the center on the reverse. These could be initials of the person for whom the ruler was made.
Lastly on the reverse, others letters are inscribed in digits of the date: " л. г. ", " л. л. ", et " i. г. "
The ruler comes in a big varnished wooden frame, where it is hanging on two big wrought iron square headed nails. A " M " is chased on one of them.
