Due to the similar style and quality, we have attributed this Masterfully religious work by hand by Jose de Sarabia (1608 -1669), the Spanish Baroque painter from the circle of Murillo. José de Sarabia was born in Seville, according to Antonio Palomino was the son of the painter Andrés Ruiz de Sarabia, who moved to Lima when José was still a minor. He then studied with Zurbarán and Murillo, as well as the Cordoba Antonio del Castillo, and after completing his training he would have moved to Cordoba, where domiciled since 1630 appears in fact in a stable way. Palomino, Cordoba is also said to have painted many works for public places, especially dedicated to the Immaculate, citing among them "that of the Shore" and the convent of San Francisco, in which he produced many works. Another Purisima Concepcion by Sarabia Palomino had relatives, as well as some other photos of the same, who also "did many paintings for private homes". In all this there is little preserved or what can be safely attributed, not being easily able to determine what was not his style, since, according to Palomino, he was not in the habit of signing his works (an escape to Egypt not preserved in the convent of Victory would have been the exception) and which is often worth prints, in particular of Rafael Sadeler, "it was very stiff", and of Rubens, who copied the Erection of the Cross at the convent of San Francisco de la Arrizafa.
