"Masonic Coffee Pot, 1819-38, Paris, Sterling Silver,by N.x.goulin,"
Extremely rare tripod coffee maker from the restoration period in solid silver with Masonic decoration. This medium-sized coffee pot has the usual shape of Empire period coffeepot , but its decor is anything but ordinary. The spout in the shape of a camel's head is particularly refined and the profiles of Bacchus and Ceres which serve as attachments to the ebony handle are quite rare and exceptional. Nevertheless, it is the three decorations that serve as attachments to the feet of our récipient that are the most unique. This effigy of a winged goat with impressive horns wearing a Freemason's apron is borrowed from the iconographic vocabulary of Masonic Templarism and recalls the representation of Baphomet, the idol supposedly worshiped by the Templars. It bears the hallmark of NX Goulin once established at Place Thionville in Paris. The hallmark is that for the first silver title of the period 1819-1838. It weighs 460 grams.
